How quickly does trash build up in your home? According to The World Counts, we throw out over 2 billion tons of household waste a year globally, more than 60 tons of waste every second and that's just the beginning. By 2050 the amount of household waste will grow by 70 percent reaching 3.4 billion tons a year. Waste generation will outpace population growth by more than double. Are reusables the answer?
What are Reusables
We live in a disposable society, but it is becoming more and more common to see people walking around with their own water bottle or coffee cup and carrying their own bag into the store. These are reusables and a way to reduce single use plastic and waste going to our landfills. But it doesn't have to stop there...
Ways to Start Living with Reusables
- In the kitchen, beeswax paper is an alternative to baggies and plastic wrap
- Dine in instead of using the drive through or bringing home take out
- Like leftovers, bring your own container
- Replace your dryer sheets with wool dryer balls
- Coffee lovers start using a French press
Next time you reach for the trash to throw something away, stop and ask yourself is there a reusable for this, there probably is.
What is your favorite reusable? Go to our social media pages Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest and share your story.
