Travel in the Home Ideas

community Responsible Travel Slow Travel

Traveling for me is like breathing; an absolute necessity, but right now between the cost of hotels, transportation and the unknown stress of will I get there, will my luggage and will I come back sick, makes me want to hyperventilate and there is nothing relaxing or rejuvenating about that. So how do I feed my need for travel without leaving home?

Virtual Guided Tours - Search for a city you never visited, historical sites, museums.  Google Arts and Culture is a great way to tour museums around the world.  Virtual vacations offer extended walk and drive videos. Air Pano is another site showcasing natural wonders and city views. There are also paid sites such as Tours By Locals with over 200 live or recorded guided tours in 44 countries.

Live Web Cams - Watch live farm animals with this webcam from the UK. Prefer your animals wild, Explore.org has webcams set up all over the world and the site provides tons of information about each area.

Cooking - Find a restaurant nearby with food from a country you haven't visited or learn to cook a favorite dish with a virtual class. Cozy Meal offers a range of virtual cooking and mixology classes.  Nonna Live offers classes if you are craving Italian food.

Memories - Take a trip down memory lane and pull out mementoes from recent trips. Invite friends over and ask then to share their favorite travel stories.

Party Theme - Speaking of friends make it a party. Choose food, drinks, décor from a particular country or region.

Traveling in the home may not be exactly the same of feeling the sand between your toes and the wind in your hair, but it may just be what you need to keep the explorer in you from going crazy until the next time you find yourself packing a bag.

Tell us about your favorite local park. Go to our social media pages Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest and share your story.
