Organic cotton for a healthy, happy home

Does shopping organic really make you and the planet healthier?

We see the word organic everywhere, food shopping, clothes shopping and thankfully it is starting to become more prevalent in the home décor market. But does it matter? The short answer is YES it matters and here's why!

Why It Matters To You

Thinking about buying a stain resistant sofa for your living room, mattress or bedding. It probably contains PFAS also known as "Forever Chemicals" which according to the CDC are linked to numerous health concerns, including liver and heart damage, immune disorders, cancer and hormone disruption.  A report in 2015 report by the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention detected PFAS chemicals in the blood of 99% of Americans.

What is Organic Cotton

Organic Fair Trade Cotton is grown without the use of harmful synthetic chemicals, pesticides, or fertilizers and with respect for workers rights and safety, but only about 1% of the global cotton market is organic.

Look for GOTS Certified Organic Cotton

Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) is a worldwide leading textile processing standard that includes ecological and social criteria. An independent certification of the entire textile supply chain ensures the final product you bring into your home is truly organic and sourced from green supply chains.

Why It Matters to the Planet

Less chemicals that run off into our water supplies helps maintain natural habitats. Not using petroleum based fertilizers reduces the carbon footprint in organic agriculture, resulting in higher CO2 absorption and higher yields. Farming organic cotton has 91% lower water consumption than non-organic.
